Swimming Report

Swimming is an important skill and can encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. In accordance with the National Curriculum, schools must provide swimming instruction either in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.

The programme of study for PE sets out the expectation that pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Our data for our Year 6 children in 2023/24 is:

Number of children in cohort: 12

Number of children who can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres: 12 (85.7%)

Number of children who can use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]: 12 (85.7%)

Number of children who can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations: 12 (85.7%)
