Intent
Technology plays an integral part of our children’s lives and we aim to equip children to become active and responsible citizens in this ever-changing digital world.
We are aware that access to technology can vary greatly and that there may be barriers and stereotypes in the world of computing around gender and race. We aim to inspire all children to be digital thinkers and computer scientists of the future. We want children to consider technology as a tool for innovation, discovery and learning.
It is vital that children understand the advantages and disadvantages of their online experience and that they are aware of the measures they can take to stay safe.
Implementation
- Digital Literacy: Children learn to use technology to express themselves an develop their ideas
- Information Technology: Children learn to use technology to create programs, systems and a range of content
- Computer Science: Children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming
- Computing is taught discretely and may be linked to the wider curriculum where possible
- Computing is used in other curriculum areas to support and enhance work – research, presentations etc
- Children are taught and reminded how to stay safe online and how to be responsible digital citizens
Impact
- Early use of digital technology improves children’s language skills and promotes social development and creativity
- Having a deeper understanding of computing enables children to be better equipped when tackling maths and science problems
- Children gain the knowledge and skills that will help them make sense of, and contribute to, the society and world they live in
