Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

Our school encourages children to develop an awareness of the universal moral principles of right and wrong, justice and fairness and a proper concern for the fate of others and the world.

The personal and social development of each child has a significant role in their ability to learn and achieve.

PSHE is taught directly and through other subjects such as English, Science and PE. It is embedded in the daily life of our school community through assemblies; expectations of playground behaviour; healthy eating during break and lunchtimes; School Council meetings; Environmental Club and whole-school initiatives such as ‘Walk to School Week’. We also welcome visitors to the school such as Health Professionals, Police, Fire Service and other positive role models. Every class takes part in a circle time, enabling children to discuss a range of issues in a safe and trusting environment. Issues affecting the whole school are taken to School Council by the class representatives.

Sex and Relationships Education (SRE)

Sex and Relationships Education at Curridge School is taught within a moral framework, mainly through PSHE but also through Science.

It includes supporting young people to develop self-confidence in preparing for physical and emotional changes into adulthood. We believe that the teaching should be shared with parents and be mutually supportive and complementary.

Parents are very welcome to view the resources used. Please contact the Headteacher in writing if you wish to withdraw your child be withdrawn from SRE.

Drugs Awareness Education

At Curridge Primary School, Drugs Awareness Education is taught through both PSHE and Science. Children learn to recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way their bodies function. We support our children to keep their bodies healthy, and understand how their bodies might be damaged through drugs and other harmful substances.

We aim to equip children with the knowledge, understanding and skills that enable them to make healthy, safe choices throughout their lives.
