Our School Parliament

Campaigns, Election Day and Parliament in Session.

Following a lively campaign from prospective candidates, a general election was called on October 2nd 2019. The polling station was open from 8am to 6pm and everyone in school was given the opportunity to cast their vote. The turnout of voters was impressive at 100%.

Using resources on loan from The House of Parliament, we learned more about the building and the work that goes on in this historic landmark.

In addition, we welcomed  former M.P. Richard Benyon to school. He took a tour of the school and talked to the children about the work, fun and quirky events that have happened in The Houses of Parliament. He answered every question put to him and helped bring to life the experiences of a politician.

While attending the War Child Memorial Service at Westminster Abbey in November, we took time to walk across Westminster Bridge to see The Houses of Parliament.

Parliament met in the autumn term and many agenda items were discussed. Actions were agreed and ministers made sure they represented the children who had sent in ideas for discussion over the term. The next meeting will be in the spring term.
