Curridge Primary School is a healthy school and we are committed to offering our pupils sensible and responsible options for healthy living. This encompasses many aspects of school life including travelling to school, the PE curriculum, after school activities as well as food and drink on offer in school. The school has a Whole School Food Policy (including snack) which you can find in the Policies area of the website.

Nuts

For the protection of our pupils who have life-threatening allergies, we are a nut free school . Please do not send your child to school with any food that contains nuts for example, peanut or almond butter, some cereal bars and biscuits. Products which state ‘may contain traces of nut’ are allowed as the risk is very small.

Water

Every classroom has filtered mains drinking water and every child is given a free water bottle when they join our school. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. Only water is allowed in the classrooms. Children may bring fruit juice or squash to drink at break and lunch times. We do not allow fizzy drinks in school or on school trips.

Milk

The school subscribes to the Cool Milk scheme which gives a 190ml carton of semi-skimmed milk daily to children.  Parents need to register for the scheme. The milk is supplied free of charge up to a child's fifth birthday, and at a subsidised cost thereafter. You can register on the Cool Milk website here

Snacks and Fruit

Morning school lasts from 9am to 12.30pm for Reception and Key Stage One, and until 12.45pm for Key Stage Two. We recommend that children bring a healthy snack and/or drink for morning break at 10.40am. Children in Reception and Key Stage One also receive a portion of fruit or vegetable free of charge through the government fruit and vegetable scheme. There is no need to register for this scheme. We do encourage children to try whatever is on offer.

School Meals

You may choose whether you wish your child to have a packed lunch or cooked school meal. Our school meals are provided by Caterlink Ltd who are contracted by West Berkshire Council. From September 2014, school meals for children in Reception and Key Stage One have been free of charge under the government’s scheme for Universal Infant Free School Meals. The price of a school meal for Key Stage Two children is currently £2.86. Meals can be ordered and paid for in advance via the school communication system ParentMail. Children who have ordered a cooked meal are encouraged to try everything on offer and eat at least one of the vegetables provided. 

For children bringing a packed lunch, drinks should be in leak-proof containers.  No glass bottles, cans, fizzy drinks or sweets are allowed please. 

Free School Meals

Parents in receipt of certain benefits may be entitled to claim free school meals for their children. Whether or not your child receives the Infant Free School Meal, registering for free school meals means that your child will continue to receive a free meal when they move into Key Stage Two.  Our school will receive additional funding which will be used to support your child during their time at our school.
